Scholarship for Scholars from Developing Economies

Qualifications for Application:
An Applicant must be
1. A student from one of the Developing Economies, who is
2. A first or second author of an accepted COLING2002 main conference paper

[By Developing Economy, we are referring to a country or community where financial support for international scholarly exchange is scarce, and where the living standard does not allow a scholar to self-support such activities. By this standard, we believe that all developed economies or transition economies should be excluded. However, since the COLING2002 organizing committee is in no position to make a judgment of economic status, a one paragraph statement describing the financial difficulties of his/her country/community is required from each applicant.]

Application:
Application will be accepted immediately after the announcement of COLING2002 paper decisions until May 31, 2002.
Notification of scholarships grants will be made before June 11, 2002.
Applicants must submit by e-mail the following documents
1. Acceptance e-mail from the COLING2002 program committee
2. Draft of full paper (text file strongly recommended)
3. Proof of student status (a signed English letter from your advisor is preferred)
4. A short CV which includes a list of recent publications, and
5. A short (one paragraph) statement of the financial difficulty of your country

The Scholarship
Each grant will include
1) Full regular registration of COLING2002 (including reception, banquet, and excursion)
2) 5 nights of accommodation (August 25-29, 2002) at the Center of Academic Activities, Academia Sinica.


MSRA Fellowship for PRC Student Authors

COLING2002 Organizing Committee is pleased to annouce two MSRA fellowships for student authorrs holding PRC passports. These two fellowships are established with a grant from Microsoft Research Academay, Beijing. Applicants must be a PRC citizen who is also currently a registered student. To expedite the visa application process after the fellowships are awarded, the following immediate deadlines are established:

Application Deadline: May 14 (Tuesday, Taiwan Time)
Annoucement Deadline: May 16 (Thursday, Taiwan Time)

SIGHAN Student Fellowship

SIGHAN, the Association for Computational Linguistics Special Interest Group on Chinese Language Processing, as part of its goal of promoting education in Chinese Language Processing is pleased to announce at least TWO student fellowships, to cover the cost of attending the full-day tutorial in Computational Linguistics and Chinese Language Processing to be offered August 24, 2002, in conjunction with COLING 2002 in Taipei.

The fellowship will cover the cost of tutorial registration only.

Applicants must be students currently enrolled in a degree program, and have an interest in natural language processing or related areas.

Applications should include the following materials:
1. Short CV or Resume
2. Short (50 word) statement of interest
3. GPA or equivalent
4. Names and email addresses of two referees
